Day #30 – Son Of A Son Of A Sailor

Tomorrow marks two months on this earth without Jimmy with us. Today is Halloween, and tomorrow marks the Catholic holidays of All Saint’s day, and then after that, All Souls Day. I wasn’t raised catholic, but Jimmy was, so I don’t know how he felt about these holidays, but in a worldwide perspective, with the season of Dia De Los Muertos with us, this seems like a perfect time to honor not just Jimmy, but his father and father’s fathers, and all the ancestors in his line, both paternal and maternal. If it wasn’t for them, there would not have been him!

Day #28 – The Devil I Know

I have always liked this song, from the first time I popped this CD into the player, I connected with it. Not sure if it’s the fun, fast paced lyrics, or the rhythm, or just the concept, but I think it’s a wonderful song. Certainly, it tells us a little about Jimmy, but perhaps it also tells us a little about ourselves.

Day #25 – The Wino And I Know

This is one of those songs that speaks for itself. It has a charm that completely carries you away with the lyrics, and you are left feeling like you had a wild weekend that will take at least a week to recover from, and you enjoyed every darn minute of it!

Day #24 – Cowboy In The Jungle

Jimmy was a storyteller, and he was great at it. Some songs were based on stories he was told, some on things he experienced, some on things he imagined. I think Cowboy In The Jungle is a bit of all three of those things. As I have gotten a little older, I have connected with this song a little more each day. To me, the lesson here is roll with the punches, trust your intuition, and make the best of “it” that you can.

Day #23 – La Vie Dansante

Dancing. Singing. Laughing. These are all things that help lighten our spirit and bring us joy. Joy is something I never really tried to define before because I think people just know it and understand it and feel it. But the textbook definition is “a feeling of great pleasure and happiness”, “a state of happiness or felicity”, and “a cause of delight”; and joy is something we should all be lucky enough to find in our lives.

Day #22 – Last Mango In Paris

Jimmy had a keen sense of humor and seemed to enjoy puns and plays on words, as we can see with him titling an album White Sport Coat and A Pink Crustacean, a play on words with the Marty Robbins song White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation, and Last Mango in Paris is no exception.

Day #21 – Livingston Saturday Night

Livingston is a city in southwestern Montana, in Park County, and is surrounded by gorgeous vistas of mountains and rolling foothills. Its most recent population is around 8300, which might not seem like much, but that makes it a city by Montana standards. It lies along the upper Yellowstone River and is considered the northern gateway to Yellowstone Park…
