Day #3 – Come Monday

Day #3 – Come Monday

This was Labor Day Monday’s post, which really explains the reason that I picked it. I also really love this song.

Of course, Jimmy left on the Labor Day weekend, and I, like many others, were shocked and saddened by his passing. I think many of us needed the weekend to just to settle into the fact that our Parrothead King was gone. I still have a hard time saying the words.

I listen mostly to RadoMargaritaville; in my car, in my house or on my phone at work. It’s my “go too”, but I turned to RadioMargaritaville early that Saturday morning not because I wanted to, but because I needed too! I honestly just sat in my chair and let the tears flow. I was so grateful to hear the emotion in Kirsten’s voice that showed me she was feeling this loss too. And later in the day, JD joined her, and I really relied on them to get me through.

Anyway, that was my Labor Day weekend this year. Sitting in my chair, letting the tears fall, listened to one Jimmy song after another. I talked to very few people… I just couldn’t. Even when I went outside with my dog, or out to feed by horses, I took my phone and never stopped listening. It was part of helping me deal, helping me heal. I am certainly not past the loss but I also realize how lucky I was to have been a living breathing fan of the man for 31 years of my life, while he was on this planet with me. Nothing will change that, and I am so grateful for the quantity and quality of his music and stories that we have to fill the rest of our lifetimes.

And I just also want to say how grateful I was for RadioMargaritaville and Kirsten and JD on Labor Day weekend, 2023. I truly think you helped many people make it through! Cheers!

Day #3 – Come Monday

I was going to save this one for later but a few things changed my mind.

First of all, it’s Monday, so…

Secondly, while outside yesterday, listening to RadioMargaritaville, I was thinking about what song I would share today, and just as I thought the question, Come Monday started playing. I looked up into the bright blue sky, I seen a large bird soaring and circling. It was a Turkey Vulture but I love watching them fly. Large, lazy circles, a little wobbly (like myself) and that distinctive wing pattern. Anyway, I took it for a sign.

So, thirdly, JB has toured in the summer for decades, and Labor Day weekend was always a big, important show. I was lucky enough to get a Labor Day Saturday show in Bristow, VA with my dear friend Naomi in Sept of 2012. The song lyrics talk about the Labor Day weekend show and getting to Monday so he can spend some relaxing time with his lovely lady, Jane.

I honestly feel like this entire Labor Day weekend has been about Jimmy for me, his loss, the sorrow, the music, the stories, and so this song feels absolutely fitting for today.

So Come Monday…

I know I am now posting this a month after Jimmy left us on Labor Day weekend, but sometimes it still feels like the wound is that fresh. I will miss him! Of course, I didn’t know him and never met him, but I feel like he was a dear friend. I know thousands and thousands of people feel the same way. Partly that is why I am sharing these songs and thoughts. To hopefully help others know and appreciate Jimmy the way I felt like I knew him, and how I certainly appreciate him.

Please enjoy Come Monday. I have included the link from below. Enjoy!

Stacy Loves Buffett

I was born and raised and still live in Montana- far, far away from the sea and the beaches that Jimmy Buffett loved and wrote about and promoted with his music and laid-back lifestyle, but I caught the bug and have been a proud Parrothead since I was nineteen years old, and I will proudly continue to carry that banner for help others appreciate the gift of his music.

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is fantastic blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

Hi Gunnar, thank you so much for your comment. I might add some more pictures at a later date, but I am currently trying to stick to album covers, which I find is a fun way to journey through Jimmy’s music. I am glad you are liking the blog so far, and I look forward to hearing more comments from you! Stacy
