Day #32 – Mañana

Day #32 – Mañana

Mañana turns out to be a very special day for Parrotheads everywhere, because tomorrow, November 3rd, is the day that Jimmy’s album Equal Strain On All Parts is officially released! I have been waiting for it since summer when I heard the first stirrings on RadioMargaritaville, when I first heard My Gummie Just Kicked In. Then, September 1st kicked me in the gut, and I knew that things would never be the same. But right now, we have a gift coming mañana and I am so grateful for that.

Day #32 – Mañana

So, I have a list of songs that I wanted to share, but I have also been letting inspiration guide me for when I share most of these songs. Yesterday, no inspiration… last night, still thinking about it… keep saying “What should I share tomorrow?” and I asked myself this several, several times, and was suddenly like, “Wait a minute”, and looked back at my list. There it was, fifth on my rumpled list, the song that literally means tomorrow in Spanish!

And it was near the top of my list, so you know that I like it!

He sings in this one, “Nothing happens quite like I planned” … I hear that JB.

Mañana was released on JB’s 1978 album Son Of A Son Of A Sailor, which we’ve already visited a couple times. The whole record is fabulous! It was the third single that Jimmy released from this album, with the gorgeous Coast Of Marseilles, written by Keith Sykes, on the B-side.

“New albums old and I’m fresh out of tunes, But I know that I’ll get ’em, I know that they’ll come, Through the people and places and Caldwell’s Rum.”

Jimmy took everyday experiences and made them into something special with lyrics and music. This song is no exception. He wrote about needing to write new songs and looking for inspiration, and then he wrote about what inspired him.

For instance, in The Parrothead Handbook that came with Beaches, Boats, Bars & Ballads, he wrote that he had been sailing around the Virgin Islands, and was docked at Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands, when the power suddenly went out and stayed out all night (from the reading I’ve done, this was a pretty normal experience in the BVI), a common phrase was said to be “maybe tomorrow” in regards of reestablishment of power.

Jimmy was blanketed in star light, but twenty miles away, he could see the lights of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, and he nods to General Electric keeping the lights on. So, he wrote his song, cataloging his week, and later described it as better than keeping a calendar of happenings.

“Let’s reggae Reefers”!

It’s a fun song, rather introspective and while it’s not peppy, it has a positive vibe. I’ve included the link in the comments below! I think you’ll enjoy it!

Honestly, it’s been a bit weird how so many things have worked out on this journey, how some songs presented themselves on my initial posts when they did, or the bizarre coincidence of this song, Mañana, meaning tomorrow, presenting itself when tomorrow is such an important date in Jimmy’s music career.

So, here’s to tomorrow and Equal Strain On All Parts!

Please enjoy Mañana. I have included the link below. Enjoy!

Stacy Loves Buffett

I was born and raised and still live in Montana- far, far away from the sea and the beaches that Jimmy Buffett loved and wrote about and promoted with his music and laid-back lifestyle, but I caught the bug and have been a proud Parrothead since I was nineteen years old, and I will proudly continue to carry that banner for help others appreciate the gift of his music.
